Solution Focused Therapy assists clients in discovering personal truths that result in movement toward the clients' desired lifestyle. The therapist employs active listening skills and carefully constructed questions to identify specific content in the clients' dialogue. Together, client and therapist identify problem-saturated areas, as well as, areas of strength and personal resources for conquering challenges.
Solution Focused sessions are modeled after three key points:
1. Problem acknowledgement
2. Desire for change
3. Identification of a preferred future
Based on Social Constructionism, a theory suggesting that individuals' sense of self is real, Solution Focused Therapy works to construct a new reality for a client that is the result of therapeutic conversation and shifts in a clients approach to the world.
Solution Focused Therapy is one of several techniques offered through My Sounding Board. To inquire further about therapeutic processes and approaches, contact your therapist using the "solve your problem" button below.
